The outbuildings are brick-built with corrugated roofs and sit between 1m and 1.2m above the Archallagan Road, which slopes steeply and has a number of bends that restrict visibility for drivers in both directions. The central planning question was whether removing the buildings would harm the character or appearance of the area, and if so, whether the resulting improvement to visibility and highway safety would justify that impact. Planning permission was needed because only some of the buildings on the site were being demolished, not all of them. The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture approved the application on 2 March 2021, subject to one condition.
