The Site
The application site relates to Crosby Cricket Club, Marown Memorial Playing Fields located off Old Church Road, Crosby, Marown. Specifically this application is concerned with the south eastern corner of the site.
The Proposal
This application seeks approval for the erection of a two lane cricket practice net constructed on an astro surface. The nets would have a maximum height of 2.44 metres, a length of 22 metres and a width of 7.3 metres. The astro pitch would be 25 metres by 8 metres and would run parallel with the Heritage Trail. The application form sets out that outside of the cricket season, the equipment can be dismantled leaving only the astro turf base in place.
Planning Status
The application site is located within an area identified as being open space by the 1982 Development Order. The site is used as a bowling green, football pitch and there is also a BMX track and skate park.
Planning History
The following previous planning applications are considered relevant in the assessment and determination of this application:
00/00774/B - extension to existing catch fencing - permitted. 02/01972/B - construction of skateboard park - permitted. 03/01265/B - creation of a cycle fun track facility - permitted.
Representations
Marown Parish Commissioners do not object to this application.
Assessment
The proposed development would be in accordance with the land designation of the site and would improve the existing facilities available to users. The cricket nets would not be of a scale that would appear overly dominant in relation to the site surroundings and would be easily removed when not required. For these reasons it is judged that the proposed development is acceptable.
