Erection of gable to roof to repair storm damage on Bridson Street elevation, and insertion of dormer windows, to provide staff room and store, The Cherry Orchard Hotel, Port Erin.
6 November 2009 · Delegated
Cherry Orchard Aparthotel, Bridson Street, Port Erin, Isle Of Man, IM9 6an
The application sought permission to erect a smoking shelter within the curtilage of the Cherry Orchard Hotel, an aparthotel on Bridson Street with frontages onto both Station Road and Bridson Street. The site sits within an area designated for Tourism in the Port Erin Local Plan 1990, and part of the building already operates as a bar. The officer concluded that the shelter is modest in scale and would not harm the appearance or character of the building, the surrounding area, or the amenity of nearby residents. The proposal was found to accord with General Policy 2 of the Strategic Plan.
The shelter was considered appropriate because it is modest in scale, consistent with the site's tourism designation and authorised bar use, and would not adversely affect the building's appearance, the character of the area, or neighbouring amenity. The initial access concern raised by Port Erin Commissioners was resolved when the applicant confirmed alternative accessible entrances exist.
