18 August 2009 · Delegated
Flat 2, 25, Demesne Road, Douglas, Isle Of Man, IM1 3dz
This application sought permission to install replacement windows to the front elevation of Woodlynn, 25 Demesne Road, Douglas. The proposed windows would have casement openings rather than the sliding sash style typical of the area. The application was refused on 18 August 2009. The deciding officer concluded that casement windows on the front elevation would not preserve or enhance the character of the Peel Conservation Area. The refusal was made under delegated authority by the Director of Planning and Building Control.
The application was refused because the proposed casement-opening windows on the front elevation were considered incompatible with the Peel Conservation Area. Sliding sash windows are the established form in this area, and the casement design would fail to preserve or enhance the conservation area's character.
