18 August 2009 · Delegated
Ballagawne Farm, Ballagawne Road, Ballabeg, Castletown, Isle Of Man, IM9 4pd
This application sought permission for the temporary storage of infill material on a field at Ballagawne Road, Ballabeg, in the parish of Malew on the Isle of Man. The site sits adjacent to land where an underground reservoir had been approved but not yet built, and lies some 6.5 metres from the B43 Ballagawne Road. The officer report identified two main planning issues: the need to protect the countryside for its own sake, and the implications of material being generated by the approved reservoir construction works nearby. These were weighed in assessing whether temporary storage on this rural site was acceptable. Permission was granted on 18 August 2009 under delegated authority, subject to two conditions. The officer had also recommended approval.
The application was approved by the Director of Planning and Building Control under delegated authority. The key planning considerations were the protection of the countryside and the implications of material generated from the approved but not yet constructed underground reservoir works nearby. The proposal was found acceptable on a temporary basis.
