The application sought permission to erect a sludge treatment facility at the existing Meary Veg Sewage Treatment Works in Santon. The development includes a treatment building, odour control plant, a sludge cake storage silo, and a final product silo. The Planning Committee granted permission in October 2013, subject to two conditions. The facility is associated with an existing sewage treatment site, which provides relevant operational context for the proposed infrastructure.
The Planning Committee approved the application, determining that the proposed sludge treatment facility was acceptable in planning terms. The decision was made by committee under delegated authority, with two conditions attached to the permission.
Condition 1
The development hereby permitted shall commence before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.
Condition 3
Notwithstanding the approved drawings, the landscaping details must include the creation of a Manx sod hedge alongside the public footpath, constructed in accordance with Planning Circular 1/92. The trees to be planted alongside the new Manx bank must be of the following species: fastigate hornbeam (Carpinus betulus Fastigiata), whitebeam (Lutescens Sorbus aria Lutscens) and Broadleaved cockspur thorn (Crataegus x prunifolia) and hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) and planted as shown in the approved drawings.
