Lanjaghan Farm, Lanjaghan Road, Abbeylands, Isle Of Man, IM4 5eq
This application sought permission to convert existing farm buildings at Lanjaghan Farm, Abbeylands into twelve tourist accommodation units with support and leisure facilities, alongside a replacement farm complex including agricultural buildings, a farm worker's dwelling, and a detached garage. The Department of Infrastructure refused the application in November 2013. Two specific concerns were identified in the decision notice: the replacement farm would be likely to generate significant nuisance for residents of the nearby property Slieau Ree, potentially at any hour of the day or night due to the proximity of farming activities, reducing their residential amenity and altering the local character. Additionally, the entrance gates proposed for the holiday complex were considered poorly positioned and poorly designed for their rural setting.
The Department of Infrastructure refused this application. Two reasons were given: first, the replacement farm complex would likely cause significant and ongoing nuisance to nearby residents at Slieau Ree from round-the-clock farming activity, harming their residential amenity and the character of the area. Second, the proposed entrance gates to the holiday complex were considered out of keeping with the open rural character of the area due to their design and position.
