Manx Telecom applied for permission to install three wooden telegraph poles and associated cabling at Ballaquane Park, Peel, to provide fibre optic connectivity to properties at numbers 3–6 and 41–48. The application was refused by committee on 12 September 2025. The decision turned on the visual impact of the poles. Officers found that their height, size, and scale would be out of keeping with the surrounding streetscene of bungalows, causing harm to the character of the area that was considered unacceptable. No conditions were attached, as the application was outright refused.
The application was refused by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture. The three wooden telegraph poles were considered too tall and large for the setting, and their presence among a streetscene of bungalows would cause an unacceptable level of visual harm to the character of the area.
