CREATION OF REPLACEMENT ACCESSES, FIELDS 534248 & 534250 STRENABY FARM, ABBEYLANDS ROAD
The replacement access are needed to provide safer and quicker passage for livestock and horses across the Abbeylands Road. Abbeylands Road albeit in parts only single vehicle width has become increasingly busy with both vehicle, farm and horse traffic.
Currently Field is only accessible from south of Strenaby farmhouse to the west side of the holiday bungalow. Horses and sheep moving to and from Fields 534248 & 534250 on the south side of the Abbeylands Road have to be walked along the road and up the driveway to Strenaby Farm. As this driveway also serves separate premises which has several commercial vehicles at it on the other side of the driveway and the holiday bungalow as well as the farm the journey can be hazardous.
Mrs Darville's horses are pure bred Arabs and very flighty. Albeit they initially were kept in the paddock to the north-east of the farmhouse and field to the south of it, whilst in the paddock they were "spooked" by the noise of a machine at the adjacent premises, took off bursting open some field gates and severely injuring themselves. Hence they have had to be moved away to have their alternative field in the "quieter" area south of the Abbeylands Road. However to get them safely back to their other field on the north side as short a crossing over the road as possible is needed.
The current access on the south-east side of the road which serves two fields has very poor visibility. The proposal is to move it north-wards to a position where it can obtain maximum visibility on the inside of a bend.
On the opposite side of the road a previous access to the field did exist at the junction of the field with the lane to Lower Strenaby Farm. This has been disused for a number of years. The proposal is to put a replacement access in opposite that above so that movement across / along the road is minimalised.
The accesses have been designed to Highways Division requirements. The splays will be of sod bank construction to minimise any visual disruption. Gateways will be reutilising the existing 4m wide metal gate on to the south-east side with a matching one inserted on the north side. As per the existing, the gates will be set back 6m from the roadway so that on occasions when a farm vehicle / trailer is utilising the access they will be off the road when the gate is being opened or shut. The existing entrance to Field 534250 will be built up as a sod bank to a maximum of 0.9m to match that on either side within the visibility splay.
