16 October 2012 · Delegated
Ballacregga Corn Mill, Mines Road, Laxey, Isle Of Man, IM4 7nl
Permission was granted for an extension to the Old Corn Mill Tearooms on Mines Road, Laxey, to create a disabled toilet facility. The site sits within the curtilage of the former Manx Engineering Ltd works, which also has two associated car parking areas on Mines Road. The officer's report noted that the proposed extension would be tucked into a corner of the site, set down from the adjacent highway, with the existing side and rear retaining walls forming part of the structure. This positioning was considered to limit the extension's impact on the surrounding area. The application was decided by delegated authority and approved with three conditions.
The Department of Infrastructure approved the application on 16 October 2012. The extension was considered acceptable in part because of its tucked-away position, set down from the adjacent highway, with existing retaining walls forming part of the structure and limiting its visual impact.
