Hi Dan
Yes the purple is the added back porch. I have provided answers to the conditions listed below for both the re-built ‘yellow’ front porch and the ‘purple’ back porch:-
The enlargement of a dwellinghouse (including the erection of an extension or conservatory).
Conditions:
(a) the general conditions applicable to Section A; (b) the floorspace (measured externally) of the extension must not exceed 15 square metres beyond that of the original dwellinghouse; Both the re-built front porch and the back porch are less than 15 square metres (c) the extension must not exceed 4 metres in height above ground level; Neither the re-built front porch and the back porch exceed 4 meters high above ground level (d) no part of the extension may be nearer to any highway which bounds the curtilage of the dwellinghouse than — (i) that part of the dwellinghouse nearest to that highway, or (ii) 20 metres,
whichever is the nearer. The re-built front porch is 750cm from the boundary, the back porch is set back from the dwelling and the garage, so is not nearer the boundary.
(e) no part of the extension may be nearer than 1 metre to the boundary of the curtilage of the dwellinghouse; as above the re-build front porch 750cm from the boundary, the back porch is set back from the dwelling and the garage, so is not nearer the boundary.
(f) the external finish of any walling must match that on the major part of the dwellinghouse; and Both the re-built front porch and the back porch match the external finish of the dwellinghouse (g) operations within this class are allowed only if, on completion of the operations, at least 2 car parking spaces remain within the curtilage of the dwellinghouse. In relation to the re-built porch and the rear porch neither impacted the parking spaces.
For the purpose of paragraph (g) the minimum size permitted for a car parking space is 6 metres by 3.25 metres. In relation to the re-built porch and the rear porch neither impacted the parking spaces therefore the following are not applicable.
(g) operations within this class are allowed only if — (i) at least 2 car parking spaces remain within the curtilage of the dwelling house on completion of the operations; or (ii) where there are fewer than 2 car parking spaces within the curtilage of the dwelling house prior to the operations taking place, there will be no net reduction in the area of car parking space on completion of the operations.
For the purpose of paragraph (g) the minimum size permitted for a car parking space is 6 metres by 3.25 metres.
If you need any more information please let me know.
Kind regards
Hayley

Good Morning Hayley,
Thank you for all the information. It’s my understanding that the parts highlighted in yellow, on my crude drawing below, are the original and the purple highlight is the part your father (my condolences for your loss) added on to connect the main house to the garage?
If this is the case we do have some permitted development for extensions which is like a blanket planning approval so long as the works fit the conditions of the class the work comes under which I will put below:
14 Class 14 Extension of dwellinghouse
The enlargement of a dwellinghouse (including the erection of an extension or conservatory).
Conditions:
(a) the general conditions applicable to Section A; (b) the floorspace (measured externally) of the extension must not exceed 15 square metres beyond that of the original dwellinghouse; (c) the extension must not exceed 4 metres in height above ground level; (d) no part of the extension may be nearer to any highway which bounds the curtilage of the dwellinghouse than — (i) that part of the dwellinghouse nearest to that highway, or (ii) 20 metres, whichever is the nearer. (e) no part of the extension may be nearer than 1 metre to the boundary of the curtilage of the dwellinghouse; (f) the external finish of any walling must match that on the major part of the dwellinghouse; and (g) operations within this class are allowed only if, on completion of the operations, at least 2 car parking spaces remain within the curtilage of the dwellinghouse.
For the purpose of paragraph (g) the minimum size permitted for a car parking space is 6 metres by 3.25 metres.
This information is found on page 18 of the Permitted Development Order 2012 which can be found here. If the work that has been done fits the above conditions then we would class it as permitted development and no further action would be needed. If it doesn't or I have misinterpreted the information please let me know and I can advise what further actions will need taking.
I hope this helps and have a good day,
