Interior
The interior is going to be extremely important. The open plan area will have no fixed objects due to the continuous and rigorous cleaning that is needed to maintain hygiene standards. The flooring will be cleaned throughout the day and then deep cleaned everyday with a steam cleaner using products designed for dog facilities.
Hours of Operation
Business hours for Doggy daycare services will be from 7:30am until 6:30pm, Monday to Friday, giving customers the option to drop off earlier and pick up later than other daycares. The daycare will also be open 9.00am until 3.00pm Saturday and Sunday. As the daycare will be open 7 days a week, this will appeal to customers who may wish to drop their dogs off for a few hours to go shopping without paying full day fees.
Products and Services
The daycare will offer earlier opening times and later closing times for customer convenience. Feedback I have had from customer at a previous role commented how they would struggle to pick up before 6:00pm and would prefer to drop off before 8:00am due to their working hours.
For daycare there would be a maximum of 40 dogs per day split into groups with no more than ten dogs per staff member, as per UK regulations. This would keep the numbers low per staff member to work with the dogs on a 1 to 1 basis, building good relationships with all the dogs and being able to work on any issues that the owner may be facing.
Management
I will be running the business day to day, working full time hours 50+. I was a kennel supervisor for three years and helped set up a daycare from scratch, which I then ran for six months and I was very active in running the business.
I will employ two full time staff, who will have experience in working with dogs of all shapes and sizes. They will undertake mandatory online training in dog CPR and dog behaviors, the training courses will help develop staffs knowledge and skills to work effectively with dogs. I will do all hands on training in cleaning and the daily running of the business and the staff must possess excellent customer service skills and organisational skills.
