3 May 2012 · Committee
Whilo, 70, Bucks Road, Douglas, Isle Of Man, IM1 3af
This retrospective application sought permission for the continued display of an externally illuminated fascia sign and illuminated display panels at a retail unit at 70/72 Bucks Road, Douglas. The fascia sign measured 11.7 metres in length and 800mm in height, and the display panels were positioned just behind the glazed shop front. The application was refused by the Committee in May 2012. Two reasons were given: the proposal as a whole was considered not in keeping with and detrimental to the surrounding area, and the fascia sign specifically was found not to relate well to the building and site on which it was displayed. The case officer had also recommended refusal, so the Committee's decision aligned with that recommendation.
The application was refused because the illuminated fascia sign and display panels were judged not to be in keeping with the surrounding area, and the fascia sign in particular did not relate well to the building on which it was displayed. Both refusal reasons were based on the Isle of Man Strategic Plan 2007.
