17 October 2017 · Committee
Quay Hole, 10, West Quay, Ramsey, Isle Of Man, IM8 1dw
Permission was granted for the conversion of a single building at 10 West Quay, Ramsey into a distillery. The works included lifting and replacing the existing mono-pitched roof, alterations to the front elevation, and installation of double doors. The building, which has a large glazed shopfront facing the Quayside, was noted to be in a poor state of repair at the time of the application. The key planning issues considered were whether the distillery use was appropriate for the existing building, the potential visual impact on the surrounding conservation area, highway safety and parking, and any effects on neighbouring amenities. The Committee approved the application, with two conditions attached to the permission.

Officers considered the principle of using the existing building as a distillery, the potential visual impact on the conservation area, highway safety and parking, and effects on neighbouring amenities. Permission was granted with two conditions attached.
The West Quay area is allocated for mixed use, with a presumption in favour of rehabilitation and conversion (as against demolition) of the warehouse buildings
