5 December 2016 · Delegated
Field 334814, Postal Locality, Gordon, Peel, Isle Of Man, IM5 3ar
Permission was granted for the installation of 24 ground-mounted solar panels on a small part of an agricultural field next to Ballacallin House, on the western side of the A4 coast road between Patrick and Gordon in the parish of German, Isle of Man. The site occupies a portion of a larger field where the land slopes upward from the road to the west. The officer's report noted that while the panels are visible from the public highway when looking uphill, they are not striking and do not spoil the character of the surrounding countryside. From a nearby farm lane the panels are more visible, but that lane is not a public right of way. The application was determined under delegated powers on 5 December 2016, with one condition attached to the permission.
The application was approved on 5 December 2016 by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture under delegated powers. The officer recommended approval and the decision aligned with that recommendation. The panels were considered to have limited visual impact on the surrounding countryside, being visible from the public road only when looking uphill and not striking or harmful to the character of the area.
