Statement to accompany the Planning application

Introduction.

The Northern Swimming Pool team approached our practice to produce a scheme to improve the Northern Swimming Pool main entrance area.

Client Brief.

The brief comprises of the alteration and extension of the existing main entrance area. To address issues with the existing door set and provide improvements in relation to DDA regulations to improve disabled access to the main entrance and internally to the changing areas.

The Existing Entrance

The existing main entrance opening includes a manually operated standard swing door (not power assisted) and large glazed side light, a revolving door which is also manually operated and also currently out of use due to faults, and fan lights / glazing at high level.

The Proposed Entrance

In line with the clients brief the new entrance proposes to improve matters in relation to DDA regulations and condition of the existing doors.

The new entrance proposes the removal of the doors, glazing and frames from the existing opening and replacing them with a sliding automatic door (approximately 1300mm clear opening width) together with glazed side lights. Further to this, a new entrance lobby is to be constructed externally and will enclose the new automatic sliding door and side light to the internal entrance area. The external envelope of the new lobby is to be glazed curtain walling and will include 2no. access points with sliding automatic doors (approximately 1300mm clear opening width) and a new flat roof with curved fascia. New high-level windows will be provided within the existing openings of the Admin Room and Staff / Meeting Room.
