Statement to support a planning application for a gabion basket retaining wall to the rear of St Judes Lodge, Old Laxey Hill, Laxey
A land slip has occurred at the rear of the property and engineering works are required to ensure the long term stability of the existing slope. There is a risk that further erosion of the slope would compromise the stability of the dwelling itself.
An anchored gabion basket retaining wall has been designed to stabilise the ground and remove the risk of ongoing erosion of the ground.
The gabion baskets are to be faced with Manx Stone to reduce the visual impact of the retaining wall. It is anticipated that, with time, vegetation will regrow around and to the face of the retaining wall which will further soften the visual impact of the wall.
The existing trees on the slope will remain and will not be impacted by the proposed retaining structure.
The retaining wall is partly built within the ownership of the property, "Sea Level" at the bottom of the slope and the applicant has discussed the works with the owner of Sea Level.
