12 May 2020 · Committee
Field 624084, Rhowin Road, Maughold, Isle Of Man, IM7 1ep
Permission was granted for the erection of an agricultural building to provide a livestock shelter on Field 624084, off Rhowin Road, Maughold, Isle of Man. The application was decided by committee and permitted on 12 May 2020. The officer's report identified two main planning issues: whether the agricultural use was justified, and whether the building would have a harmful visual impact on the wider countryside. The site sits within an open, hilly rural landscape characterised by fields and small copses near the northeast coast of the Island. The site's secluded and relatively low-lying position, combined with mature conifers immediately to the south of the proposed building, means it is almost impossible to view from publicly accessible areas, limiting any visual impact on the surrounding countryside.
The application was permitted by committee on 12 May 2020. The officer recommended approval, and the key planning issues considered were whether there was sufficient agricultural justification for the building and whether it would harm the appearance of the surrounding countryside.
