Permission was granted for the installation of illuminated and non-illuminated signage at the B&Q home improvement store at Spring Valley Industrial Estate, Douglas, Isle of Man. The site is an established retail and industrial location. The store occupies a large building on the north-west corner of the plot, with parking to the south and a delivery area to the north-east. The southern boundary is screened by trees and shrubs, and the site already has existing signage in place. The application was decided by delegated authority and approved with one condition.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture approved the application on 3 March 2020. The officer also recommended approval. One condition was attached to the permission.

General Policy 6: Within our towns and villages, the display of external advertisements will be permitted on the site or building to which they relate provided they: (a) are of a high standard of design and materials and relate well to the building and site on which they are to be displayed; (b) are in keeping with and do not detract from the surrounding area; and (c) are located so as not to cause a highway safety hazard.

Lighting can pollute the night sky, and may be contrary to nature conservation interests.
