16 August 2018 · Delegated
3, Lime Street, Port St. Mary, Isle Of Man, IM9 5ed
Permission was granted for the replacement of white PVC windows and a door on the front elevation of 3 Lime Street, Port St Mary, a two-storey stone-faced property in the parish of Rushen. During the application process, the style of the proposed door was amended following discussions with the planning department. The revised design adopted a more traditional appearance, with two solid panels below two large glazed lights, rather than the original mostly glazed modern door. The officer's assessment noted that the surrounding streetscene is varied, with most properties rendered and many already featuring plastic-framed windows and doors of differing styles. On that basis, the proposal was considered acceptable in terms of its impact on the character and appearance of the area.
The application was approved on 16 August 2018 by a delegated Principal Planner. The key planning test was whether the replacement windows and door would preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the area. The varied streetscene, where many properties already have plastic-framed windows and doors of differing styles, supported the conclusion that the proposal would not cause harm. One condition was attached to the permission.
