Planning application in respect of proposed modifications to staff parking area.
The proposed alterations to the staff parking area are in response to the need for additional staff parking, due to the forthcoming co-location of Scoill Vallajeelt and St Thomas' School.
The application seeks to increase the parking provision for staff by 4 spaces and to provide barrier control to the spaces to the north-west side of the school in order to remove congestion in this area at pick up and drop off periods.
A transport report was commissioned by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture in order to assess the effect of the co-location of the two schools, a copy of which is included in the application. Under this application we are seeking to maximise the staff parking available, as detailed under recommendation 5.1.3.
Whilst not the subject of the planning application we can confirm the following other conclusions and recommendations from the Transport report, and can for clarity confirm the Department's proposed actions as follows - 5.1.1. Staggering the start and finish time of the co-located schools - the Department has confirmed they are to implement a 15 minute start / finish time stagger, with St Thomas' starting at 8.45 am , finishing at 3.15 pm , and Scoill Vallajeelt starting at 9.00 am , finishing at 3.30 pm . 5.1.1. School Travel Plans to be developed in order to encourage more sustainable travel choices for parents and pupils. 5.1.2. Bus transfer service between the existing St Thomas' school site and Scoill Vallajeelt the Department is committed to providing a free bus service for existing pupils for the first year of operation. 5.1.3 School Travel Plans to be developed in order to encourage more sustainable travel choices for staff. 5.1.4 Existing traffic speeds on Meadow Crescent - the Department is in dialogue with Dol Highways regarding possible traffic calming measures to reduce speeds and improve highway and pedestrian safety.
