RE: PA 18/00244/D - Westcoast Fitness Dear Miss Kinrade,
The proposed signage for Westcoast fitness, under the application of 18/00244/D will have minimal contribution to light pollution within the surrounding area. Although we cannot determine the exact lux figures as you requested, we can however confirm they are very low. As a result, the sign would not be visible in daylight.
Please see attached bellow two examples of the Halo lit signage on both the Dandara building and the new Jacksons Motor Village. Please note that in both images, the signage is illuminated

As you can see from the above images, it is evident that the signage produces very little light which is hardly visible in daylight, therefore supporting the fact that they will have minimal contribution to light pollution in the surrounding area.
Kind regards,
For and on behalf of Ellis Brown Architects

Can you give me figures of Lux levels. Have you a brochure that I can send to planning in addition to some images of the buildings / examples you refer to?

Peter,
Thank you for your enquiry, Halo lit letters are made from stainless steel of Aluminium and are powder coated, they are known as a built up letter, the LED units are mounted onto a clear backing plate and shine upwards into the back of the letter and then they reflect back onto the building to prevent spotting.
We would normally stitch drill into the building to connect the letters electrically together if the is not possible we would have to surface mount the cables in conduit this detracts from the clean appearance if the sign.
Examples of halo lit signs on island Jacksons not Currently lit, Dandara headquarters, Canada Life, Calton Manx, Ocean Restaurant and Elian Vannin Hotel.

Rachel,
Further to our discussion please see attached the drawing and details as submitted to planning when seeking approval for signage.
The proposal is to Halo lit, but the planning office have asked for further details with regards the lighting levels and the type. Is there a typical arrangement for these elements, and can you provide or point me in the direction of examples.
The site is located on the edge of peel and we need to be sure that it would have a negative impact to the dark skies area of St Johns.
If this is something that you can assist with that would be most appreciated and I will ensure the client is aware of your assistance. I'm sure for completeness he would want to commission a sign that you had been involved with.
If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Peter
