REASONS FOR AN ALL WEATHER MENAGE
An all weather ménage will allow us to school and exercise our horses on a daily basis regardless of weather conditions.
Our fields contain clay soil which is "heavy" as it holds water and is slow draining. Horse riding on this type of soil is very limiting as ground conditions fluctuate according to the weather, either too hard from prolonged dry periods or freezing temperatures (as recently experienced) or soft wet and slippery from rain which would "churn up the field.
An all weather ménage provides a safe surface for the horse as it enables the horse to be "sure footed" providing shock absorption which reduces the risk of injury.
There are many activities on the Island which discourage us from taking our horses out on the roads for safety reasons such as TT and MGP fortnight and closed roads for Rallies.
We feel a ménage will allow us the freedom to exercise our horses as and when required without the above mentioned restrictions.
Our aim is to keep the majority of the field for grazing our horses and haylege production.
Many thanks
